What’s a simple pleasure in life that brings you joy?
In a world of constant digital noise, true luxury is found in the quiet act of reading. For many like me, the ultimate simple pleasure is opening a book or comic to read and discovering new words that haven’t been heard of before. It’s like a form of modern treasure hunting where language is the currency.
Reading doesn’t only bring me joy learning new words but by also diving into a world that’s a totally different world from yours, it gives me a chance to escape reality. Examples of books I read are mostly fictional (thrillers, Mystery, crime) and documentary stories.
Some of my favorite books I’ve read
- Dead Aim by Iris Johansen
- Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
- Gifted Hands the Ben Carson Story
- A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara
- The lion and the Jewel by Woke Soyinka
Words I have collected so far from this week
* Logolepsy: A fascination with words that turns reading into a hunt.
* Asinine means extremely foolish, unintelligent, or ridiculously silly.
* Prerogative is an exclusive or special right, power, or privilege granted to a person, group, or official body.
* Ineffable: A feeling too intense to be described in words.
* Tsundoku: The art of letting unread books pile up at home.
Reading isn’t just about finishing a list; it’s about that joyful moment of escaping reality, learning new things and thinking, “I’m glad I know that now”. Tell me in the comments what were your favorite books you’ve read and are reading.
